OBLIGATORY POST BIRTHDAY POST

Fun times. Got to go get delicious seafood and mashed potatoes, followed by scrumptious, scrumptious birthday cake.

I saw Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs...and am thoroughly convinced that everyone needs to see it. It is hilarious. I know the ads make it look funny in a stupid way, but in reality, it is the complete opposite. The movie is very clever, hysterical even in its presentation of the material. It is also a salute to all things geeky including: Scientific anagrams, YouTube videos, nerds, celebrities of the 80s, gummy bears, former child stars, and, oh yeah, the book it is based on. Words can't actually describe how fantastic this movie actually is. I wonder if it translates into other languages or if a lot of it is lost in translation? I don't know, but it is great.

I also saw Astro Boy...which made me want to read some REAL Tezuka manga. I think I would have liked it more if I didn't have a history with the source material. The original deals a lot with love, loss, humanity of humans and humanity of machines, and a lot of other things under the shiny veneer of a robot super heroics. The first fifteen minutes of the new movie does that...but the rest of it quickly spirals into a bland kiddie flick. Ah, well. I did manage to buy a few volumes of one of Tezuka's other series, Phoenix. At least it had a decent anime, that, from what I've seen and read, stays a lot closer to the source material found in the source material.

I've gotten into Heroes, Season 1. Hiro is my Hero and Spock...I mean, Sylar is my bad boy.
Hiro is adorkable love and if you didn't have Sylar, you wouldn't have a plot.

I just picked up the Star Trek movie and the Klingon fan collective (Thanks, birthday) and have thus, provided my inner Trekkie with sustenance after it was awakened in May...and later in October with Wil Wheaton's Memories of the Future.

I've been listening to his podcast of it, too...which is not only awesome, but free as well. You go, Wil.

Well, I'm off to go where no Hime has gone before...at least on her own television!
